What is a DHI hair transplant?
DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is an advanced form of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant surgery that offers permanent, natural-looking hair restoration. Each hair follicle is extracted individually from the donor area and transferred directly to the recipient site without the use of scalpels or stitches, which reduces the risk of follicle damage and promotes faster healing.
The precision tools used have a diameter of 1mm or less, allowing natural-looking density and direction to be achieved. The result is a hairline and coverage that blends seamlessly with your existing hair, with no visible scarring at the donor site.
DHI hair transplant is available through Maison Restorative in partnership with our specialist provider. Consultations can be arranged at our clinic in Jersey, giving you access to this life-changing procedure without travelling abroad.
Why patients choose DHI Hair Transplant
- Permanent hair restoration with natural-looking results
- No scalpels, no stitches, no visible scarring at the donor site
- Minimises follicle damage during extraction and placement
- Precise control over hairline design and hair direction
- Faster healing compared to traditional FUE techniques
- Consultations available locally in Jersey
DHI hair transplant suits men and women experiencing pattern hair loss or thinning who want a permanent, natural-looking restoration and are good candidates for follicular extraction based on the quality and density of their donor hair.
What to expect from DHI Hair Transplant
- Step 1
Consultation
Your suitability is assessed, donor and recipient areas are evaluated, and a personalised restoration plan is discussed including the expected number of grafts and hairline design.
- Step 2
Procedure
Under local anaesthetic, individual follicles are extracted from the donor area and implanted directly at the recipient site using specialised DHI tools. There are no incisions, stitches or linear scars.
- Step 3
Recovery and growth
The transplanted follicles shed initially, which is normal. New hair begins to grow within a few months, with the full result visible at nine to twelve months after the procedure.
The first fortnight matters more than any other part of this treatment. Sleep with your head elevated for the first three to five nights, which limits the swelling that commonly appears across the forehead around days two to four and then resolves on its own. Do not touch, scratch or pick at the grafts. Your surgeon will tell you exactly when and how to carry out your first wash, usually within the first few days, and washing must be done gently by hand with no direct pressure from the shower. Small crusts form around each graft and separate over roughly seven to fourteen days; let them come away naturally. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting and anything that makes you sweat for two weeks, and keep swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms and the sea out of the picture for around a month. Protect your scalp from direct sun, and avoid tight hats until your surgeon says otherwise. Do not smoke and avoid alcohol in the early healing period, as both impair healing and blood supply to the grafts. Expect the transplanted hairs to shed between two and six weeks: this is normal shock loss and not a failure of the procedure. New growth begins at around three to four months, with the final result at nine to twelve months. Contact the clinic if you develop increasing pain, spreading redness, discharge or a fever.
Frequently asked questions about DHI Hair Transplant
Is DHI different from standard FUE?
Yes. Standard FUE involves creating recipient channels before implantation, whereas DHI implants each follicle directly using a specialised tool (the Choi implanter pen) in one step. This reduces the time follicles spend outside the body and gives more precise control over angle and direction.
Will the results look natural?
Yes. The technique allows precise placement of each follicle to mimic the natural growth pattern, direction and density of your existing hair. There is no visible scarring at the donor site.
Is the procedure permanent?
The transplanted follicles are taken from areas genetically resistant to hair loss, so the results are permanent. The surrounding hair that was not transplanted may continue to thin naturally over time.
What is the recovery like?
Most patients experience mild redness and some shedding of the transplanted hairs in the first few weeks, which is a normal part of the process. Most people feel comfortable returning to work within a few days to a week.
When will I see the full result?
New hair begins to emerge within three to four months. The final, full result is usually visible at nine to twelve months after the procedure.
How much does a DHI hair transplant cost?
Pricing depends on the number of grafts and the plan agreed for you and is confirmed in writing at your consultation, with no obligation to proceed.
