Overview
Refresh and brighten the eyes by removing excess skin and under-eye bags, with natural-looking results
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is one of the most effective ways to refresh and rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes. The eyelid area is often one of the first places where ageing becomes noticeable, with excess skin forming on the upper lids, hooding that can obstruct vision, and puffiness or bags developing beneath the eyes.
Upper eyelid surgery removes or repositions excess skin and tissue, opening up the eye and restoring a more alert, youthful look. The incision is placed in the natural crease of the lid so that any resulting scar remains discreet. Lower eyelid surgery addresses the fat deposits and excess skin responsible for bags and hollows under the eye, producing a smoother, rested appearance.
Blepharoplasty is commonly performed under local anaesthetic in our procedure room, and it can also be combined with other procedures such as fat grafting or a brow lift when a more comprehensive rejuvenation is appropriate. Stitches are typically removed within a week, and most swelling and bruising settles within two weeks.

Eyelid surgery suits anyone troubled by heavy, hooded upper lids, excess skin around the eyes, or persistent under-eye bags that make them look tired or older than they feel. A consultation confirms which procedure is right for you.
What to expect
Your treatment journey
- 1
Consultation
Your surgeon assesses the upper and lower lids, discusses your goals and recommends the most suitable approach, whether upper surgery, lower surgery or both in combination.
- 2
Surgery
Carried out under local anaesthetic in our procedure room, the procedure removes or repositions excess skin and fat through carefully placed incisions in the natural eyelid crease.
- 3
Recovery and follow-up
Stitches are removed within a week, and most bruising and swelling settles within around two weeks. We will review you to monitor healing and ensure you are happy with your result.
Aftercare
Keep the eyelid area clean and avoid rubbing or applying pressure to the eyes in the days following surgery. Swelling and bruising are normal and will gradually subside over the first one to two weeks. Avoid strenuous activity, direct sun exposure and wearing contact lenses until your surgeon advises it is safe to do so. We will see you at a follow-up appointment to remove sutures and check your recovery.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between upper and lower eyelid surgery?
Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin and tissue that creates heaviness, hooding or obstructs vision. Lower eyelid surgery addresses fat deposits and loose skin beneath the eye that cause bags or a hollowed appearance. Both can be performed together at the same time.
Will the scars be noticeable?
Upper lid incisions are placed in the natural crease of the eyelid, where they are almost invisible once healed. Lower lid scars are typically placed just below the lash line or inside the lid, depending on the technique used, and are designed to remain discreet.
How long does recovery take?
Stitches are removed within a week, and most swelling and bruising settles within approximately two weeks. Most patients feel comfortable returning to daily activities relatively quickly, though strenuous exercise and contact lens wear should wait until your surgeon clears it.
Can blepharoplasty improve my vision?
Yes, in cases where excess upper eyelid skin is drooping over the pupil and obstructing the field of vision, upper eyelid surgery can produce a meaningful functional improvement as well as an aesthetic one.
Can eyelid surgery be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Blepharoplasty is frequently performed alongside procedures such as micro-fat grafting, brow lifting or skin resurfacing around the eyes, which can produce a more comprehensive rejuvenation of the eye area.
How much does eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) cost?
Pricing depends on whether upper, lower or both lids are treated and what is agreed for you and is confirmed in writing at your consultation, with no obligation to proceed.
