Overview

What is fat freezing?

Fat freezing, or cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical body contouring treatment that permanently removes localised fat cells by cooling them to a controlled low temperature. Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the surrounding tissue, so the cooling process triggers their natural cell death without harming nerves, blood vessels or skin.

At Maison Restorative we use CRISTAL technology, a medical-grade cryolipolysis system with eight control sensors that monitor and optimise treatment in real time, ensuring safe and effective results throughout every session. Multiple applicator heads can be used simultaneously, so more than one area of the body can be treated in the same appointment.

Cryolipolysis is not a weight-loss treatment. It is designed for people who are close to their ideal weight but have discrete pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise. Once treated, the destroyed fat cells are gradually cleared by the body over the weeks following treatment, improving the body's contour and silhouette.

What to expect

What to expect from Fat Freezing (Cristal Cryolipolysis)

  1. Step 1

    Consultation

Your practitioner assesses the area to be treated, confirms your suitability and designs a personalised treatment plan that may include one or more sessions.

  2. Step 2

    Treatment

The CRISTAL applicator is placed over the treatment area; controlled cooling is applied for approximately 45 to 60 minutes per zone, during which you can relax comfortably.

  3. Step 3

    Aftercare

There is little to no downtime and most patients return to normal activity immediately; the body gradually clears the treated fat cells over the following weeks, with visible results developing from around six weeks.

Aftercare

The treated area is typically red, firm, swollen and numb straight after the session, and your practitioner will usually massage it immediately afterwards, which is an important part of the treatment rather than an optional extra. Redness settles within a few hours. Numbness, tingling, tenderness, bruising, mild cramping and a deep itching or aching sensation are all common in the first one to two weeks and resolve on their own; some people find the itching more bothersome than any pain. There are no restrictions on your activities and you can exercise and return to work immediately. Loose or comfortable clothing over the area helps in the first few days. Continuing to massage the area for a few minutes daily over the first fortnight, if your practitioner recommends it, may help the response. Results are not immediate: the body clears the treated fat cells gradually, with change becoming visible from around six weeks and continuing to develop up to about twelve weeks, which is when the outcome should be judged and any further session considered. Contact the clinic if pain increases rather than settles after the first fortnight, or if the treated area becomes firmer or more prominent over the months that follow.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Fat Freezing (Cristal Cryolipolysis)

Is fat freezing permanent?

Yes. The fat cells destroyed by cryolipolysis do not regenerate. However, remaining fat cells in the area can still enlarge with significant weight gain, so maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps preserve your results.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies by individual and the area being treated. Some patients achieve their desired result in one session; others benefit from a second treatment. Your practitioner will advise at consultation.

Is it painful?

Most patients experience an intense cold sensation and some pressure as the applicator draws up the tissue, which settles within the first few minutes. The treatment is generally comfortable enough to read or relax during.

Can multiple areas be treated at once?

Yes. Our technology allows multiple applicator heads to work simultaneously, so you can treat, for example, both flanks or an abdomen and thighs in a single appointment.

Who is not suitable for fat freezing?

Cryolipolysis is not suitable for those who are significantly overweight, pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have certain cold-related conditions. Your practitioner will screen for contraindications at your consultation.

How much does fat freezing cost?

Pricing depends on the number of areas treated and is confirmed in writing at your consultation, with no obligation to proceed.
